In order to practice as a Registered General Nurse in the UK, a candidate must be registered with Nursing & Midwifery Council UK.
NMC checks and verifies that a candidate is qualified enough for practicing safely and efficiently in the UK and this is done through multiple stages of verification and tests.
A nursing candidate with a 3-year Diploma or a Bachelor Degree in Nursing and a Nursing registration number from their home country with at least 1 year of work experience as a Registered Nurse or Midwife, upon completing the UK NMC registration and providing the Evidence of English language skills you are eligible to employ as a Register Adult General Nurse in the UK.
A candidate is mandatorily required to clear either IELTS or OET language test to be eligible for nursing occupation in the UK. IELTS is a generic English language proficiency test whereas OET is a more specific language proficiency test for healthcare professionals.
International English Language Testing System test covers four modules (reading, writing, listening and speaking), the candidates who choose to take the IELTS are expected to score a minimum of 7.0 bands in the listening, reading, and speaking and 6.5 bands in the writing with an overall score of 7.0 bands.
The Occupational English Test also covers four modules (reading, writing, listening and speaking). The candidates who choose to take the OET are expected to score a minimum of C+ in writing alongside a minimum of B in reading, listening and speaking.
